The student remains the author
The ideas, analysis, examples, wording, applications, and final decisions belong to the student. The purpose of advisory support is to improve the student's ability to make and explain those choices—not to substitute an adult's voice or judgment.
What guidance and feedback can include
Mentors may ask questions, help students identify themes, teach planning and writing techniques, challenge unclear reasoning, flag gaps or inconsistencies, explain how a reader may respond, and suggest areas for revision. The student decides what to change and produces the revised work.
What Letrado will not do
- Write or rewrite an essay, statement, research submission, or application answer for the student.
- Invent experiences, accomplishments, positions, hours, awards, difficulties, or personal history.
- Impersonate a student or communicate with an institution as though Letrado were the applicant.
- Complete assessments, examinations, graded assignments, or interview responses on the student's behalf.
- Pressure a recommender or other third party to provide inaccurate information.
Research, capstones, and independent projects
Letrado may help a student choose a feasible question, understand methods, plan milestones, locate appropriate learning resources, interpret feedback, and communicate findings. The student must do the substantive intellectual work, follow any school or program rules, credit sources and collaborators, and obtain required supervision or ethical approval.
Tutoring and test preparation
Tutoring teaches concepts, strategies, and practice habits. It does not include taking a test for a student, obtaining restricted materials, misrepresenting accommodations, or helping a student evade the rules of a school, testing organization, or course.
Parents and families
Families can provide context, logistics, and support, especially for younger students. Mentors will also protect age-appropriate space for the student to think, speak, and make decisions. The student's application should not become a parent's or advisor's production.
Accuracy, review, and submission
Letrado may help identify inconsistencies and encourage careful review, but the applicant is responsible for confirming that every submission is complete, truthful, and consistent with the institution's rules. The student submits their own application unless a documented accessibility or age-related arrangement requires appropriate family support.
