Good guidance should make you a clearer thinker and a stronger writer, not a different person on paper. Here is how we help, what we won’t do, and how to use AI tools honestly.

HOW WE HELP
Honest feedback, with you in charge of the work.
Your mentor helps you see your work more clearly. You decide what to change and make the changes yourself.
What we do
- Ask questions that help you find your own ideas.
- Tell you honestly what is working and what is unclear.
- Teach planning, structure, and editing skills you can use again.
- Point out gaps, contradictions, and questions a reader might have.
- Help you check facts, word counts, and each school’s instructions.
What we won’t do
- Write or rewrite your essays, statements, or application answers.
- Invent or exaggerate experiences, awards, hours, or difficulties.
- Contact a school as if we were you, or submit anything for you.
- Take tests, complete graded work, or answer interview questions for you.
- Ask a recommender to say anything that isn’t true.
AI TOOLS
AI can help you think, but it shouldn’t write for you.
Tools like ChatGPT can be useful along the way. What you submit should still be written by you, in your own voice.
Fine to use AI for
- Brainstorming questions or ideas to explore.
- Checking your grammar and spelling.
- Explaining a concept you are studying.
Not okay
- Having AI write or rewrite sentences you submit.
- Pasting AI-written text into an application.
- Using AI to invent or dress up details.
Our mentors never use AI to write for you. Feedback comes from a person who has read your work.
Schools may set their own rules. If a school or program has an AI policy, follow it.
BEYOND ESSAYS
The same standard applies to everything we do.
Whether you are working on a project, preparing for a test, or applying with your family’s help, the work and the choices stay yours.
Research and projects
We help you choose a question, plan the work, and explain your findings. You do the research and writing, credit the people and sources you use, and follow your school’s or program’s rules.
Tutoring and tests
Tutoring teaches concepts, strategies, and good practice habits. We never take a test for you, share restricted materials, or help you get around a school’s or test’s rules.
Parents and families
Families are welcome to help with context, planning, and support, especially for younger students. Your mentor will also make sure you have room to think and speak for yourself.
Before you submit
We can help you review your application. Checking that everything is complete and true, and submitting it, is up to you.

How much will you change my writing?
We point out what’s unclear and ask questions that help you say what you mean. You decide what to change and make the edits yourself.
Can I use ChatGPT or other AI tools?
Yes, for brainstorming, checking grammar, and understanding a topic. Not for writing or rewriting anything you submit. If a school has its own AI rules, follow them.
Can my parents be involved?
Yes. Families are welcome to help with context and planning. Your mentor will also make sure the ideas and the words in your application come from you.
