JPA’s National Sponsorship Program (PPN): For Malaysian citizens with top SPM results at the first attempt. It funds a preparatory program, then a degree at a university in the QS World University Rankings’ top 20, or the top 10 for your subject. You need at least 9A+ in the listed subjects for engineering, science, and technology, or 8A+ for other fields.
How JPA’s funding works: It’s a convertible loan. You repay 5% to 100% of it, depending on your final grades, and the rest is waived if you then take a graduate-level public-sector job. In medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy, it’s waived after you serve in the public sector: five years for medicine, three for dentistry or pharmacy.
MARA’s Young Talent Development Program: For Bumiputera students with excellent SPM results, aged 18 in the year they apply, who pass MARA’s student assessment. It funds a preparatory program, such as A Levels, the IB, or a foundation, in Malaysia or abroad, as a route to leading universities.
Bank Negara Malaysia’s Kijang Undergraduate Scholarship: For Malaysian citizens aged 22 or under with an offer from a university on the bank’s approved list, in fields such as economics, finance, law, and computer science. It covers tuition and allowances. Afterwards you work for the bank for two years for every year of study, so six years after a three-year degree.
